Former Fountain Court Member Sir Nicholas Stadlen has been posthumously awarded a National Order of South Africa, the highest award that South Africa, through its President, bestows on citizens and foreign nationals, who have contributed towards the advancement of democracy and who have significantly impacted the lives of South Africans.
Specifically, Nick has been awarded The Order of the Companions of OR Tambo, which recognises eminent foreign nationals and other foreign dignitaries for friendship shown to South Africa, and is described as an Order of “peace, cooperation and active expression of solidarity and support”. Nick has been recognised for his “steadfast standing with the South African liberation movement at a time when it was not convenient to do so” and is noted as having “believed in equality and supported exiles as a friend of South Africa”.
Nick passed away in October 2023 and is greatly missed.
